Aquaculture Status in Sri Lanka

From 1980's Shripm farming is taken place in aquaculture and with the disease, now it is collapsed. With that, Tilapia aquaculture, Fresh water prawn aquaculture, and crab fattening was done in certain places.

With the end of 30years civil war, the Nothern and Eastern parts of the Sri Lanka was opened for development and with that, using the unused resources in a long period, was started the development of aquaculture as a livelihood opportunity.

Under that, Seabass aquaculture, Crabs fattening, Green Mussel farming etc is now developing and funding is needed to develop that.

This part in the Sri Lanka is most suitable part with natural lakes and lagoons with most suitable environmental conditions for aquaculture.
